Gulab-jamu

                                       Gulab-jamun

Gulab jamun is a very very popular sweet of India and it's popularity is just not confined there, people all over the world have fallen in love with it. Gulab jamun is originally and authentically made with soft khoya, but here in U.S.  good quality khoya is not available and we make this finger licking dessert with milk powder. Either we got used to this taste or it turns out really good; I honestly can not tell!

 Ingredients:

  1. Carnation Milk powder-2 cups
  2. All purpose flour or Bisquick Pancake Mix- 1 cup ( I mostly use All purpose flour).

  4. Sugar- 4 cups
  5. Water-6 cups
  6. Green Cardamom powder-1/2 tsp.
  7. Refined oil for frying
  8. Heavy whipping cream-1 Pint
(You can use katori for measuring things, just use the same katori, 1-1 katori maida and whipping cream, 2 katoris good quality milk powder)

Method:

  • In a wide mouth pan or kadai, add water and sugar and make ek taar ki chashni.
  • When chashni is done, add green cardamom powder.
  • In a mixing bowl, mix All purpose flour and milk powder, baking powder with the help of whipping cream.
  • Smooth-en and make small balls, they will swell in oil and afterwards in chashni or sugar syrup.
  • Heat oil in a pan or kadai, and fry the balls on medium -low heat.
  • Add these balls in chashni and let them sit for about 3-4 hours.
