                           Green Peas Special Ghughni

Hare Matar ki Ghugni (Matar Ghugri) is a spicy quick North Indian snack of fresh green peas tossed with or without potatoes, tempered with basic spices and seasonings. This lip smacking UP style peas recipe is ready under 20 minutes. Do give it a try , you will love it 🙂

The super delicious Hare Matar Ki Ghugni is almost everyday affair at our homes during winters when fresh peas are flowing much in markets. This ghughni makes wonderful winter snack or you can also make it as a quick breakfast recipe.

There are different ways to make this recipe and I myself make 3 types of hari matar ki ghughni.

One is no onion-garlic ghughni where tadka is given od cumin seeds and green chillies in just 1 tsp. Of oil.

Second method is chopped garlic green chillies tadka.

In both these methods, no spices are used and these are seasoned with salt only and later garnished with Coriander leaves. Potato addition is optional here.

But this recipe is on spicier side and worth trying. You can make this with not so sweet peas also and yet it will turn out yummy.

Ingredients:

1. Hari matar ke Dane -340 gm. ( I used 1 frozen pack)
2. Onion-1 Finely chopped
3. Tomato- 1 small
4. Salt to taste
5. Sugar- 1 tsp.
6. Red chilli powder-1 tsp
7. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp.
8. Coriander powder-1/4 tsp.
9. Coriander leaves for garnishing
10. Pomegranate seeds (optional)
11. Cumin seeds- 1 tsp.

Method:

* Take a pressure cooker for quicker cooking, otherwise use pan or kadai.
* Heat 1 tbsp. Oil and add cumin seeds.
* Also add chopped onion and saute till light brown.
* Now add small diced potatoes (if using, I used 1 small potato).
* After a couple of minutes, add all the spices and salt sugar, add chopped tomatoes and saute for 3 minutes.
* Now add peas and stir, cover the lid and cook till one whistle.
* De-pressurise and again put on high flame to dry remaining water.

Garnish and serve hot with bread or paratha.

Note: I used frozen peas so I cooked it on medium high flame as peas were supposed to release water. If you are using fresh peas, cook on lower flame.
