Palak Paneer Lasagna
Palak Paneer Lasagna
It might surprise you to learn that lasagna didn’t originate in Italy.
Italy claims it was them, but they should only be credited for
perfecting the layers and layers of the scrumptious dish that we call
lasagna. It actually originated in Ancient Greece a very long time ago.
Lasagna, or “Lasagne” is derived from the Greek word ‘Laganon’ which is
the first known form of pasta. Laganon wasn’t traditionally lasagna like
we know it. It used to be layers of pasta and sauce. Therefore, the
name came from the method it was made, not for the ingredients it’s made
with. Laganon used to describe flat dough that was sliced in strips. In
Northern Italy, you’ll find lasagna with flat noodles and in southern
Italy the noodles will be rippled. Here in the United States we use the
rippled noodles. The ingredients Italians use in their lasagna will
depend on the part of Italy their family came from.
Lasagna has become one of the crowning glories of the American-Italian
dinner table with many layers of pasta, sauce, meat and melted cheese
that come together to give your mouth an explosion of flavors. Lasagna
is comfort food and it’s always good when prepared correctly. Lasagna
preparation is not easy. Traditional lasagna is a carefully planned
assembly.
Did you know you can make lasagna noodles in the dishwasher? All you
need to do is put the noodles in a dish and cover it tightly with
aluminum foil and use the heated dry and sanitize cycle to cook the
lasagna!
A warm and cheesy lasagna dish is an
ideal go-to meal for family gatherings and celebrations. When topped
with grated fresh parmesan cheese and a glass of pinot noir, a regular
lasagna dish on a Friday night is elevated to a gourmet meal fit for a
king and queen.
The lasagna which I have prepared is a twisted recipe----an Indo-Italian fusion food! The iconic Indian Palak-Paneer is married to classic Italian Marinara sauce! And the outcome is awesome!
Method:
I used Gopi Paneer slab and cut thin slices.
Made a thick palak gravy as we prepare for palak Paneer.
Take one slice of paneer, spread palak gravy on it, make layers of this upto 7-8 slices.
On the top most slice, spread marinara sauce and bake in oven at 375F fot approx. 15 minutes.
Serve on a bed of Marinara sauce and garnish with some greens.
